120 PNW Watercolor

Pacific Northwest nature explored through art

What started as a 100-Day Project became a goal of filling two small 60-page watercolor sketchbooks with nature subjects specific to the Pacific Northwest region. I came up with ten categories and brainstormed 10 subjects for each. After I finished the first book, I decided it made more sense to complete the second in the same way, and I extended the challenge to 120 subjects.

It has been a great way to try different color palettes, compositions, and styles. While I did not complete the project within 100 days (or even close to that), it gives me something to fall back on when I am stuck. All are watercolor, but I sometimes add ink, markers, and water-soluble graphite. The sketchbooks are A6 (4″x6″) Hahnemule 100% Cotton Watercolor Books and take washes and multiple layers well with 250 gsm paper.  Most took 30 minutes – 2 hours. Currently at 73/120.
